Job summary

A leading construction firm in Abu Dhabi seeks an experienced Instrumentation Engineer to supervise all instrumentation works, ensuring compliance and quality standards. The role requires a B.E./BTech in Instrumentation Engineering and a minimum 10–15 years of experience, particularly in the Oil & Gas sector. Key responsibilities include preparing engineering deliverables, supervising site activities, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful project execution.

Job description

Responsible for executing and supervising all instrumentation works, ensuring design compliance, quality, and safety standards while coordinating with project teams and clients throughout installation and commissioning phases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, review, and analyze instrument engineering deliverables such as GA drawings, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, cable schedules, interconnection diagrams, cable tray layouts, hookup drawings, and MCT sizing.
  • Generate technical documents including method statements, termination drawings, bills of materials, junction box schedules, and specifications.
  • Possess strong technical knowledge of instrumentation systems and components.
  • Prepare qualification documents, deviations, and exemption lists in accordance with client specifications.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to integrate instrumentation systems within the overall project design and scope.
  • Prepare shop and as-built drawings, ensuring proper documentation and client approvals.
  • Select and specify instrumentation equipment, materials, and installation methods.
  • Identify and manage scope variations, coordinating with clients, subcontractors, and vendors on technical aspects.
  • Supervise construction and commissioning activities to ensure compliance with design and quality requirements.
  • Prepare Material Take-Offs (MTO) and Bills of Quantities (BOQ) based on project drawings.
  • Conduct site inspections and establish field testing and inspection procedures for instrumentation works.
  • Ensure adherence to relevant local and international standards and codes for onshore and offshore projects.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of draftsmen, engineers, and quantity surveyors.
  • Perform quantity surveying for all executed works.
Required Qualifications & Competencies
  • Minimum Educational Background: B.E. / BTech in Instrumentation Engineering.
  • Minimum Work Experience: 10–15 years.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the Oil & Gas industry with strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Proficient in PLC/SCADA systems and instrument engineering deliverables (P&ID, hookup drawings, cable routing, schedules, interconnection drawings).
  • Skilled in installation and commissioning of instruments, cabinets, junction boxes, and tubing in substations and field areas.
  • Capable of independently conducting site surveys and coordinating with clients on site-related activities.
  • Knowledgeable in hazardous area classification, resource planning, and procurement.
  • Ensures smooth execution of site activities with timely material availability and coordination across disciplines.
  • Experienced in calibration, testing, QA/QC, and documentation.
  • Well-versed in Oil & Gas HSE standards, work practices, and quality requirements.
