Job Summary
The General Manager – Quarry is responsible for the overall leadership, operational excellence, safety, and profitability of quarry operations. The role oversees production, maintenance, quality, logistics, finance, and compliance while ensuring adherence to regulatory, environmental, and safety standards. The General Manager drives efficiency, cost control, and sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage end-to-end quarry operations including drilling, blasting, crushing, screening, and material handling.
- Ensure production targets are achieved safely, efficiently, and in line with quality specifications.
- Optimize plant performance, equipment utilization, and production planning.
- Ensure strict compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Implement and enforce HSE policies, risk assessments, and safety training programs.
- Promote a strong safety culture with zero-incident objectives.
- Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance of quarry equipment and machinery.
- Ensure equipment availability, reliability, and lifecycle management.
- Manage CAPEX planning for equipment upgrades and expansions.
- Develop and manage budgets, cost controls, and profitability targets.
- Monitor operating costs, margins, and cash flow.
- Coordinate with finance on reporting, audits, and financial controls.
- Lead, develop, and motivate quarry management and operational teams.
- Ensure manpower planning, training, and performance management.
- Foster discipline, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with mining, environmental, and local authority regulations.
- Coordinate with government authorities, regulators, and external stakeholders.
- Manage permits, licenses, and statutory inspections.
- Develop and implement operational strategies to improve productivity and reduce costs.
- Identify process improvements, automation, and efficiency initiatives.
- Report operational performance, KPIs, and risks to senior management/owners.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- 10+ years of experience in quarry or mining operations, with at least 5 years in a senior management role.
- Strong experience in hard rock quarry operations (preferred).
- Strong leadership and decision‑making skills.
- In‑depth knowledge of quarry operations, HSE regulations, and environmental compliance.
- Financial acumen with experience in budgeting and cost control.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
