Job description
SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:

The Dental Imaging Specialist plays a critical role in supporting clinical care teaching and research within the College of Dentistry. The position involves operating advanced dental radiography equipment ensuring compliance with radiation safety regulations and supporting dental students and faculty in clinical and research imaging activities. The role requires technical expertise academic engagement and a commitment to patient care and safety.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Radiographic Imaging & Patient Care
  • Operate intraoral panoramic (OPG), cephalometric and CBCT machines to obtain diagnostic-quality images.
  • Position patients correctly, select appropriate exposure settings and ensure patient safety and comfort.
  • Provide clear instructions and reassurance to patients during imaging procedures.
Digital Imaging & Technical Support
  • Utilize digital radiographic systems (PACS DICOM) for image acquisition, storage and retrieval.
  • Troubleshoot imaging software and hardware issues; coordinate with IT/engineering teams and vendors as needed.
  • Maintain digital image archives ensuring data integrity, confidentiality and compliance with patient privacy standards.
Radiation Safety & Compliance
  • Implement and monitor radiation protection protocols in line with FANR (Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation) standards.
  • Ensure proper use of protective equipment (lead aprons, thyroid collars, dosimeters).
  • Maintain radiation logs, dosimeter records, calibration reports and participate in periodic radiation safety audits.
  • Participate in mandatory radiation protection programs as required to maintain MOH and FANR licensing.
Academic & Research Support
  • Assist dental students with radiographic procedures including positioning, exposure selection and infection control.
  • Supervise safe and effective image acquisition ensuring adherence to clinical and radiation safety standards.
  • Support faculty and student research projects by providing imaging-related technical assistance, data collection and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of student training and participation in radiographic activities.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
  • Perform daily start-up, calibration, quality assurance and routine cleaning of all imaging equipment.
  • Document maintenance activities and report malfunctions for timely resolution.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Radiology, Medical Imaging or a closely related field from a recognized and accredited institution.
Licensing:
  • Valid license from the UAE Ministry of Health (MOH) or equivalent authority.
  • Certification and compliance with FANR radiation protection standards.
Experience:
  • 2–4 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in a dental or academic healthcare setting.
  • Prior experience with CBCT and academic teaching/research support is an advantage.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
  • Proficiency in digital radiographic systems including OPG, cephalometric and CBCT.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting skills for radiographic equipment and imaging software.
  • Knowledge of FANR/MOH regulations and best practices in radiation safety.
  • Effective communication and mentoring skills to support dental students.
  • Familiarity with research protocols, data ethics and imaging-related academic projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a patient-centered approach and strong teamwork orientation.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail and organizational ability.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
