Job description

We are looking for a Application Reliability Engineer to join our global operations team, ensuring the reliability, availability, and performance of Orion Health’s mission-critical software solutions for clients around the world.

In this pivotal role, you’ll collaborate with our Product, Delivery, and CloudOps teams to ensure new projects are delivered efficiently and can be operated with maximum uptime and performance. You’ll take ownership of upgrade and maintenance schedules for a defined list of clients, working closely with them to plan, implement, and optimise their environments.

If you thrive in a collaborative, technically challenging environment and enjoy solving complex operational problems that directly improve healthcare outcomes, this role is for you.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining systems and infrastructure to ensure reliability and availability of Orion Health applications.
  • Developing and executing strategies to prevent and mitigate system failures.
  • Responding to incidents escalated from Tier 2 Support Analysts, diagnosing root causes, and implementing corrective actions to minimise downtime.
  • Conducting post-incident reviews to identify improvements and enhance future reliability.
  • Implementing robust monitoring and alerting solutions to proactively identify and address system issues.
  • Automating routine operational tasks and applying Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles to improve efficiency and scalability.
  • Collaborating with development teams to optimise application performance, identify bottlenecks, and improve resource utilisation.
  • Conducting capacity planning to ensure infrastructure can meet current and future business demands.
  • Planning, coordinating, and executing software upgrades into client solutions, ensuring quality and timeliness.
  • Partnering with Product, QA, Solutions, and client teams to understand release dependencies and deliver smooth transitions.
  • Continuously identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, automation, and reliability within the delivery pipeline.
What You Will Bring

Minimum of 2+ years’ experience in integration engineering, application maintenance and support, or application lifecycle management roles — ideally supporting complex healthcare platforms.

Technical Skills

Health Information Exchange (HIE) & Interoperability

  • Hands-on experience supporting large-scale HIE environments (e.g. national or regional platforms)
  • Troubleshooting and validating healthcare messaging workflows across multiple systems
  • Solid understanding of clinical data standards and interoperability concepts

Messaging Standards

  • HL7 v2.x – parsing, debugging, mapping, and monitoring transaction flows
  • HL7 v3 / CDA – understanding message structures and validating data
  • FHIR – working with resources, APIs, and resolving data exchange issues

Integration & Middleware

  • Experience working with integration engines and interface workflows
  • Debugging failed transactions, message queues, and interface errors
  • Analyzing logs, payloads, and transformation logic to resolve issues

Databases

  • Intermediate skills using relational database tools (Oracle preferred; SQL Server beneficial)
  • Ability to write and troubleshoot basic SQL queries to support investigations

Automation & Configuration

  • Experience with automation and configuration management (exposure to Ansible is a plus)
  • Comfortable working with XML and JSON for application configuration and integrations

Programming & Scripting

  • Intermediate-level experience in JavaScript, Java, or Python
  • Intermediate-level Linux shell scripting for operational and support activities

Nice to Have (Bonus)

  • Exposure to Clinical Data Repository (CDR)
  • Experience with Rhapsody integration engine or equivalent integration engine
  • Experience supporting production systems in healthcare or other regulated industries
