Job summary

A healthcare provider in Abu Dhabi is seeking a support role to assist in anesthesia procedures during surgery. Key responsibilities include checking and maintaining anesthesia equipment, assisting anesthetists, positioning patients, and ensuring safety protocols are followed. Responsibilities

  • Assist during induction and maintenance of anesthesia during surgery.
  • Check anesthesia machine daily to ensure proper functioning.
  • Assist anesthetist with equipment assembly and supply management.
  • Clean equipment and store supplies before and after surgery.
  • Familiar with intravenous fluids and blood administration systems.
  • Position patients for surgery with sterile technique awareness.
  • Assist with starting I.V. infusion.
  • Participate in on-call rotations for emergency surgeries.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient records and activities.
  • Engage in continuing nursing education and performance improvement.
Job description
Responsibilities
  1. To assist during induction, maintenance of anaesthesia during surgery and recovery from anaesthesia post surgery.

  2. Checks anesthesia machine every morning prior to surgery to ensure that the gas scavenging system is attached and the suction apparatus is attached and functioning.

  3. To provide assistance to anesthetist in assembling equipment and supplies for the administration of anesthesia.

  4. To perform cleaning of equipment and storing of supplies and to clean anesthesia work spaces and storage areas, before and after surgery.

  5. Incumbent works with a wide variety of equipment peculiar to administration of anesthesia, patient monitoring and related life support systems and must be familiar with intravenous fluids plus and blood administration system.

  6. Understands sequence of procedures required for rapid induction and intubation used in emergency cases to prevent vomiting and aspiration.

  7. Positions patients for surgery and those requiring spinal or epidural anesthesia with awareness of requirement of a sterile and sterile technique for the procedure.

  8. Learn and keep current with the name of equipment, supplies and pharmacological agents and is familiar with locations of same.

  9. Assists anesthetists with starting I.V. infusion.

  10. Share “on call” rotation to provide assistance for emergency surgeries during other than normal hours, i.e. nights, weekends and holidays.

  11. Maintains awareness of safety hazards and takes necessary action to prevent accidents.

  12. Attends staff meeting as and when required on a regular basis.

  13. Maintains confidentiality of patient records and activities in the O R.

  14. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned by Unit Supervisor/Charge Nurse or other Anesthetist.

  15. Participate in any performance improvement activities and scheduled continuing nursing education and updating.

  16. Participate in conferences or training to update or share knowledge of new techniques in Anaesthesia.

  17. Maintains current knowledge of operation procedures and maintenance of new equipment.
