Job summary
Placements24 is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead grid modernization initiatives in Paarl, Western Cape. The role focuses on designing, planning and implementing smart grid solutions, automation, and renewable energy integration to improve reliability and efficiency of the distribution network.
The successful candidate will have a Master’s in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems), 7+ years’ experience, and strong knowledge of SCADA, DERs, and AMI deployment, with a track record in

- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems) or equivalent.
Responsibilities
- Lead design and engineering of grid modernization projects (smart grid, automation, protection).
- Integrate renewable energy sources and DERs into the grid.
- Perform power system analysis: load flow, faults, stability for the distribution network (Paarl).
- Oversee AMI/DA/substation automation deployment and vendor specs.
- Manage project timelines, budgets and resources.
- Collaborate with internal teams, consultants, and regulators.
- Develop and maintain grid technical standards and practices.
- Mentor junior engineers and technical staff.
- Conduct feasibility studies and pilots for new grid tech.
- Ensure safety, reliability, and performance of designs.
