Placements24 is sourcing a Senior Electrical Engineer (Power Systems) for a major utility and infrastructure provider in Vereeniging, Gauteng. You will design, analyze, and optimize power-system studies, from load flow to protection coordination, supporting grid modernization and renewable integration.

The role blends office-based design with field site visits, requires 7+ years in power systems, and proficiency with ETAP, PSS/E or DIgSILENT.

Qualifications

• BEng or MEng in Electrical Engineering with a power-systems specialization.
• Minimum 7 years of professional power system experience.
• Familiar with substations, protection relays, SCADA, and communication protocols.
• ECSA registration is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and analyze power system studies including load flow, short circuit, stability, and protection coordination.
• Develop and review single-line diagrams, schematics, and specs for substations and networks.
• Specify, select, and test transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, and protective relays.
• Oversee commissioning and troubleshooting of protection schemes and control systems.
• Collaborate with project managers and field engineers to ensure project success.
• Provide technical guidance on power system design, operation, and maintenance best practices.
• Stay updated with industry trends, technologies, and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare technical reports and recommendations for improvements.
• Participate in safety reviews and ensure compliance with standards.
