Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer - Grid Modernization in Stellenbosch to lead design, analysis, and deployment of smart grid and substation automation projects. The role blends strategic planning with in-office technical collaboration to deliver robust and modern energy infrastructure.

You will drive power system studies, oversee component installation, and mentor junior engineers while ensuring compliance with safety standards and international codes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required or equivalent.
• 7+ years of progressive power systems experience in grid modernization.
• Experience with renewable energy integration into the grid.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and engineering of grid modernization projects (substations, smart grid, distribution automation).
• Perform power system studies (load flow, fault, stability) with industry software.
• Develop detailed engineering designs, schematics, and equipment specs.
• Oversee procurement, installation and commissioning of grid components.
• Ensure compliance with national/international codes and safety regs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including PMs and IT specialists.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Troubleshoot complex grid operation issues and stay updated on industry practices.
