Placements24 is seeking a skilled Field Service Technician to join their team in Midrand, Gauteng. You will install, calibrate, and commission complex industrial machinery, perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot electro-mechanical systems, and minimize downtime for clients.

You will train client personnel and document service activities while ensuring safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• National Diploma or N6 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• 3+ years of field service experience in industrial automation.
• Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMIs and VFDs.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and technical drawings.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to client sites.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform installation, calibration, and commissioning of complex industrial machinery and equipment.
• Conduct routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on electro-mechanical systems.
• Diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently, minimizing downtime for clients.
• Provide technical guidance and training to client personnel on equipment operation and maintenance.
• Interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints to guide repair procedures.
• Maintain accurate service reports, documenting all work performed, parts used, and recommendations.
• Adhere to all safety protocols and company standards during service operations.
• Collaborate with the engineering and sales departments to address complex technical challenges.
• Manage service inventory and vehicle stock effectively.

Requirements

• Minimum of a National Diploma or N6 certificate in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience (3+ years) as a Field Service Technician, preferably in industrial automation or heavy machinery.
• Strong understanding of PLC systems, HMI interfaces, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
• Proficiency in diagnosing electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
• Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and schematics.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, with a customer-centric approach.
• Willingness to travel frequently to client sites within Midrand, Gauteng and surrounding areas.
• A valid driver's license is essential.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
