Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Field Service Technician to join our client’s Durban operations. You will provide on-site technical support, diagnose and repair industrial machinery, and ensure minimal downtime through proactive maintenance.

This hands-on contract role requires a strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, excellent problem-solving, the ability to travel within the Durban region and occasionally longer assignments, and the discipline to submit detailed service reports.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and skilled Field Service Technician to join their operations in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal . This role is essential for providing on-site technical support and maintenance for a range of industrial machinery. The successful candidate will be responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing equipment at client locations, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum operational efficiency. This is a hands-on position that requires a strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently in diverse environments. You will be the face of our client's service commitment, building strong relationships with customers through reliable and efficient technical assistance. The role demands travel within the Durban region and occasional extended assignments. Key Responsibilities

• Perform on-site installations, maintenance, and repairs on industrial machinery and equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control system issues, identifying root causes of failures.
• Execute repairs using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
• Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance checks to ensure equipment reliability.
• Provide technical support and guidance to customers on equipment operation and maintenance.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Field Service Technician or in a similar hands-on technical role, preferably with industrial machinery.
• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, with the ability to troubleshoot complex systems.
• Proficiency in reading technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
• Experience with diagnostic tools and equipment.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Willingness to travel within the Durban area and occasionally for extended periods.
• Technical certification or degree in a relevant field is advantageous.
• Physical capability to lift and maneuver heavy equipment.
