Placements24 is seeking a skilled Field Service Technician to support clients in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. You will install, commission and maintain industrial equipment, diagnose complex issues, and provide essential on-site technical guidance and training to customers.

The role requires hands-on expertise with mechanical systems, hydraulics and pneumatics, plus strong problem-solving and communication skills. Travel within KwaZulu-Natal and beyond may be required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Perform installation, commissioning, and routine maintenance of industrial equipment at client sites. Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues. Conduct necessary repairs, upgrades, and modifications to ensure equipment functionality. Provide technical guidance and training to clients on equipment operation and maintenance. Maintain accurate service reports, documentation, and inventory of spare parts. Respond promptly to service calls and emergency repair requests, ensuring minimal downtime for clients. Adhere to all safety protocols and company standards during on-site operations. Collaborate with engineering and sales teams to provide feedback on product performance and client needs.

Requirements

Minimum of N3 or equivalent qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. At least 3-5 years of proven experience in a field service or maintenance technician role, preferably with industrial machinery. Strong understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic electrical schematics. Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and testing equipment. Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work under pressure. Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively within the KwaZulu‑Natal region and occasionally beyond. Ability to interpret technical manuals and blueprints.
