Job summary

Work Opportunities Unlimited (WOU) is an employee-owned organization helping people with diverse skills find meaningful employment since 1982. The role of Vocational Specialist involves assisting individuals to identify career goals, craft resumes, and prepare for interviews.

The successful candidate will coach clients, partner with local employers, and travel within the community to deliver on-site coaching and job development, with mileage reimbursement provided.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in public vocational rehabilitation/workforce development with individuals with disabilities.
• MS Office proficiency and accurate documentation in an electronic system.
• Ability to travel within the local community using a personal vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Help individuals set career goals and develop action plans.
• Teach resume writing, applications, cover letters, and interview prep.
• Engage with local businesses to create job opportunities.
• Coach and guide clients at job sites.
• Travel locally to deliver services in community settings (mileage reimbursed).

As a Vocational Specialist (known internally as a Career Resource Specialist) you will help individuals find meaningful employment. Please note that this role would require candidates to have the following experience:

Four years of experience in a public vocational rehabilitation and/or workforce development setting working with individuals with disabilities including responsibilities in job coaching and job placement ORan associate’s degree and three years of experienceORa bachelor’s degree and two years of experienceORa master’s degree and one year of experience.

A typical day might include the following:

• Working with individuals to develop career goals and objectives
• Teaching individuals how to create a customized resume, fill out effective job applications, write cover letters, and prepare for interviews
• Engaging with local businesses to develop potential job opportunities
• Coaching and guiding individuals at their job sites
• Community-based travel in your personal vehicle to facilitate community-based job development and coaching, ensuring all services are delivered directly in the local environment. (mileage reimbursement provided)

Additional Requirements include:

• Valid driver’s license and comfortable traveling within your local community
• Monday – Friday, daytime business hours
• Comfortable using MS Office, documenting notes in an electronic system, and accessing apps on a mobile device

Pay: $19-$21 room for additional compensation based on supporting clients to achieve successful outcomes
