Job summary

Work Opportunities Unlimited (WOU) in Elkridge, MD, seeks an Employment Specialist (Career Resource Specialist) to help individuals with disabilities find meaningful employment. You will build goals, coach resumes, applications, interviews, and work with local businesses to create opportunities.

Daily duties include guiding clients at job sites, occasional transportation to interviews (mileage reimbursed), and documenting progress in an electronic system.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 1 year disability-related experience OR Associate with 2 years OR high school with 4 years.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally.
• Availability Monday–Friday, daytime hours, minimum of 30 hours for part-time.
• Proficiency with MS Office, documenting notes electronically, and using mobile apps.

Responsibilities

• Assist individuals in developing career goals and objectives.
• Coach resumes, applications, cover letters, and interview preparation.
• Engage with local businesses to create job opportunities.
• Coach and guide individuals at their job sites.
• Provide transportation to interviews and essential milestones (mileage reimbursed).

As an Employment Specialist (known internally as a Career Resource Specialist) you will help individuals find meaningful employment.

A typical day might include the following:

• Working with individuals to develop career goals and objectives
• Teaching individuals how to create a customized resume, fill out effective job applications, write cover letters, and prepare for interviews
• Engaging with local businesses to develop potential job opportunities
• Coaching and guiding individuals at their job sites
• Provide occasional transportation to interviews and other essential employment milestones, while supporting individuals towards independent community travel. (mileage reimbursement provided)

Additional requirements include:

• MUST HAVE A bachelor's degree with one year of direct experience working with individuals with disabilities OR an associate degree with two years of direct experience working with individuals with disabilities OR High School Diploma (or GED) with four years direct experience working with individuals with disabilities.
• Valid driver's license and comfortable traveling within your local community
• Monday - Friday, daytime business hours (availability until 6pm and minimum of 30 hours for part-time)
• Comfortable using MS Office, documenting notes in an electronic system, and accessing apps on a mobile device
