Job summary

Colonial Group is seeking an Assistant Manager at its Portland, ME location to uphold VIP’s mission of earning automotive customers for life. As second in command, you’ll help the Service Manager lead a safety‑conscious team, deliver exceptional customer experiences, and ensure daily operations run smoothly.

You’ll enforce policies, oversee training and certification, monitor performance, coordinate service desks and dispatch, and maintain a welcoming, compliant shop environment.

Qualifications

• Two years related experience in automotive service management.
• Completion of two-year college or technical school program recommended.
• Current, valid driver’s license issued in state of residence.
• ASE Certifications: C1– Service Consultant recommended; P2 and G1 recommended.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the team in the Service Manager's absence and ensure safety and policy compliance.
• Educate customers about vehicle conditions per MPI and VIP processes.
• Aim for better engagement and SAX score through service excellence.
• Develop and train the superior team; ensure LMS and vendor trainings completed.
• Coordinate dispatching and assignment of work orders to technicians.
• Maintain facility, equipment, and cleanliness; ensure readiness for daily operations.
• Enforce service ethics and compliance with laws and procedures.
