Job summary

Disabled American Veterans seeks an NSO Apprentice to begin a structured on-the-job training program, training to represent veterans pursuing VA disability claims and related benefits. The role involves learning to assess records, interview veterans, and guide appeals with VA adjudicators.

Apprentices work under supervision, develop goals to manage workload, and may relocate nationwide to support DAV's mission of service and advocacy for veterans and their families.

Qualifications

• High school diploma (or equivalent).
• Must be eligible for VA Voc Rehab/Employment service via DAV On-The-Job Training Program.
• Must be a DAV member in good standing.
• General knowledge of legal/medical terminology preferred.
• Understanding of business procedures and managing client files and records.

Responsibilities

• Acquire and maintain knowledge of laws/regulations pertaining to veterans benefits.
• Learn to conduct detailed interviews to elicit information for all potential benefits.
• Review service and medical records to identify/assess claims.
• Advise on evidence needs and potential bases for claims/appeals.
• Prepare submissions to initiate/advance claims and analyze regulations applied to facts.
• Monitor claim progress and liaise with VA adjudicators to advance the claim.
