Job summary

Disabled American Veterans seeks an NSO Apprentice to begin the on-the-job training program and learn to advocate for veterans pursuing disability benefits from the VA and other agencies. You will study regulations, interview veterans, review records, and prepare submissions to advance claims.

Under supervision, you’ll gain experience handling claims, advising on appeal options, and performing outreach to recruit DAV members while relocating nationwide as needed for training and assignments.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of legal/medical terms is preferred.
• Experience with administrative procedures and client record handling.
• Proficiency with MS Office and record-keeping systems.
• Driver's license is preferred.
• Ability to learn VA claims processes and DAV procedures.

Responsibilities

• Learn to interview veterans to elicit information for identifying benefits.
• Review service medical records to assess claim validity and identify needed evidence.
• Prepare submissions for disability claims and related paperwork.
• Advise claimants on appeal options as appropriate.
• Recruit new DAV members and assist in outreach activities.
