Job summary

Disabled American Veterans seeks an NSO Apprentice to begin a comprehensive on‑the‑job training program. You will learn to assist veterans and their families in pursuing disability claims and other benefits from the VA and other agencies.

The role covers interviews, record review, and submission preparation, with supervision by a Supervisory National Service Officer. National relocation may be required as training progresses.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• General knowledge of legal/medical terminology is preferred.
• Familiarity with administrative procedures and client file management.

Responsibilities

• Learn to acquire and maintain knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to veterans benefits.
• Conduct detailed interviews to elicit information for identifying benefits.
• Review service and medical records to assess claim validity.
• Advise on evidentiary needs and potential bases of appeal.
• Prepare submissions to initiate and advance claims and monitor progress.
• Interact professionally with veterans and VA adjudicators throughout the process.
