Job summary

The Disabled American Veterans seeks an NSO Apprentice who will train to become a National Service Officer. Through DAV's on-the-job program, you will assist veterans and their families pursuing disability claims and other VA benefits.

You will conduct interviews, review medical and service records, determine evidentiary needs, prepare submissions, and navigate VA procedures. The role requires professional communication, outreach activities, and occasional travel.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Eligible for VA Voc Rehab program via National MOA with DAV On-The-Job Training.
• Must be a DAV member in good standing.
• General knowledge of legal and medical terminology preferred.
• Proficient in standard business software and records systems.

Responsibilities

• Acquire and maintain knowledge of veterans benefits laws and regs.
• Learn to conduct detailed interviews with veterans to elicit information.
• Review service and medical records to assess claim validity.
• Determine evidentiary needs and advise on filings and appeals.
• Prepare submissions and monitor claim progress with VA adjudicators.
• Engage in outreach and recruit new DAV members as needed.
