Job summary

Disabled American Veterans (DAV) seeks an NSO Apprentice to begin an on-the-job training program leading to serving as a National Service Officer for veterans and their families. You will study laws and regulations, conduct detailed interviews, and assist with disability claims and related benefits with VA and other agencies.

During training, you will learn to prepare submissions, monitor claim progress, advise on appeals, and engage in outreach to recruit new members.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must be eligible for VA Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Service.
• Must be a member in good standing of the DAV.
• General knowledge of legal/medical terminology preferred.
• Familiarity with business procedures and records management helpful.
• Driver's license preferred.
• Proficient with MS Office and veteran records databases.

Responsibilities

• Train to become a National Service Officer (NSO) apprentice.
• Represent veterans in disability claims and benefits processes.
• Prepare submissions, briefs, and regulatory analyses for claims.
• Monitor progress of claims with VA adjudicators and inform claimants of developments.
• Advise claimants on appeal options when appropriate.
• Recruit DAV members and participate in outreach activities.
• Perform administrative tasks and coordinate office activities as directed.
