Job summary

Volunteers of America Mid-States is seeking a Housing Navigator for the SSVF program to assist Veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The role focuses on partnering with HUD-VASH teams to secure landlords and community resources, promoting housing stability, and advocating for participants.

Strong communication, advocacy, and trauma-informed service delivery are essential as you coordinate housing options and assist Veterans and their families in achieving long-term housing

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Ability to access local resources and advocate effectively.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, organized, problem-solver.
• Willingness to travel up to 90% across counties served.

Responsibilities

• Serve as liaison between HUD-VASH teams and SSVF to coordinate housing resources.
• Advocate with public housing authorities and landlords.
• Develop partnerships with community partners and government agencies.
• Identify housing resources and conduct outreach for housing options.
• Address barriers for Veterans in urban and rural areas.
• Support Veterans and families with housing education and fair housing guidance.
• Explain and apply HUD-VASH, Section 8 and related housing programs.
• Negotiate leases and review rental contracts for fairness.
• Maintain landlord lists and establish new housing providers/partners.
• Collaborate with VA staff and housing authorities, employers, and referral networks.
• Comply with program policies and accreditation standards.
• Participate in outreach events and community activities.
