Job summary

Volunteers of America Mid-States seeks a Housing Navigator for the SSVF program to assist Veterans who are homeless or at risk, coordinating with VA HUD-VASH teams to connect Veterans with stable housing and support services. You will advocate for participants and promote housing justice with a trauma-informed, culturally inclusive approach.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field; or five years of related experience; or veteran with three years in the field.
• Ability to access local resources, advocate, and work cooperatively with service providers.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; organized with problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as liaison between HUD-VASH teams and SSVF, coordinating case planning for homeless Veterans.
• Advocate with public housing authorities and build community partnerships to increase housing access.
• Identify housing resources, assess barriers, and support housing stability for participants.
• Explain HUD-VASH and Section 8 guidelines and negotiate leases with landlords.
• Develop relationships with VA staff, housing authorities, and referral networks.
