Job summary

VOA Mid-States seeks a Housing Navigator for the SSVF program to assist Veterans who are homeless or at risk, coordinating with area HUD-VASH teams to connect Veterans with long-term housing. The role emphasizes advocacy, housing justice, and trauma-informed, culturally inclusive services.

You will work with landlords, rental agencies, and community organizations to assess needs, negotiate leases, and promote housing stability across counties served, with up to 90% travel and a strong commitment

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field; or 5+ years in the field with no degree; or veteran with 3 years related experience.
• Ability to access local resources, advocate, work with local providers, and apply SSVF principles.
• Excellent verbal/written communication, highly organized, and creative problem-solving; must have reliable vehicle and travel up to 90%.

Responsibilities

• Serve as liaison between HUD-VASH teams and SSVF to coordinate housing for unhoused Veterans.
• Advocate with local public housing authorities.
• Build partnerships with community partners and housing providers to expand access to housing.
• Identify housing resources through outreach.
• Explain HUD-VASH, Section 8 programs and contracts to Veterans.
• Develop relationships with VA staff and housing authorities; participate in case consultations.
• Maintain active landlord list and establish new providers.
