Job summary

Volunteers of America Mid-States is seeking a Housing Navigator to support Veterans experiencing homelessness and to connect them with stable housing. The role partners with HUD-VASH teams and area housing providers to secure long-term housing and promote housing justice for Veterans served in the VOA Mid-States network.

The ideal candidate has a background in social work or homeless services, strong communication, and a willingness to travel up to 90% of the time to serve multiple counties

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field; or 5+ years of field experience; or a veteran with 3 years in related work.
• Ability to access local resources, advocate, and work cooperatively with service providers.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; highly organized with problem-solving skills; valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Serve as liaison with HUD-VASH teams and participate in case conferences.
• Advocate with local public housing authorities.
• Build partnerships to increase access to long-term housing.
• Conduct outreach to identify housing resources.
• Explain HUD-VASH and Section 8 contracts to Veterans and landlords.
