Job summary

Volunteers of America Mid-States (VOA) is seeking a Housing Navigator to support the SSVF program and end homelessness among Veterans. You will work with area VA HUD-VASH teams, landlords, and community partners to connect Veterans with stable housing and advocate for housing justice.

Responsibilities include coordinating case conferences, building partnerships, identifying resources, and delivering trauma-informed, culturally inclusive services to diverse Veterans and their families.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field with <5 years of field experience; or 5+ years with no degree; or veteran with 3+ years related experience.
• Ability to access local resources, advocate, and collaborate with service providers.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; strong organization; problem-solving; valid driver's license and willingness to travel up to 90% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Serve as liaison between HUD-VASH teams; attend case conferencing and coordinate regionally.
• Advocate with public housing authorities and build partnerships with housing providers.
• Identify housing resources and educate Veterans on HUD-VASH, Section 8, and related programs.
• Read, interpret, and explain rental contracts; negotiate terms with landlords and housing providers.
• Develop relationships with VA staff, housing authorities, employers, and referral networks.
• Ensure compliance with program policies and participate in outreach activities and community events.
