Job summary

Layton Construction is seeking a Project Engineer to support Project Managers in ensuring installed work aligns with plans and specifications. You will review shop drawings, assist with bidding, and help develop project schedules on active construction sites.

The role requires close coordination with the project team, strong communication, and the ability to learn new procedures while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in construction management or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 1+ year of experience with a commercial general contractor or comparable internship preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; able to express ideas clearly in writing and speech.
• Working knowledge of Word and Excel.
• Flexible and cooperative; able to adjust plans to achieve goals.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints; basic scheduling knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Assist Project Managers to ensure work installed meets plan and specification requirements.
• Review plans and shop drawings for value analysis and constructability; communicate inconsistencies to the architect.
• Attend meetings and take notes; distribute minutes to participants.
• Publish weekly progress reports and manage information flow for project construction.
• Update project schedules and assist in bidding and scope development for trade contractors.
• Coordinate with superintendent on milestones, shop drawings approval, and material lists.
