Job summary

Layton Construction is seeking a Project Engineer to assist Project Managers in ensuring that work installed on the project meets plan and specification requirements. This role requires relocation to the project site as projects are nationwide.

The candidate should have a construction management background with the ability to read blueprints, coordinate with subcontractors, and maintain project schedules, while following OSHA safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in construction management or related field, or equivalent.
• 1+ year of experience with a commercial general contractor or internship.
• Strong written and oral communication; clear writing and speaking.
• Working knowledge of Word and Excel.
• Flexibility to modify plans and behavior to meet a goal.
• Cooperation: works well with others to achieve goals.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints.
• Learning ability and quick to learn new job information.
• Understand OSHA and safety requirements.
• Integrity and adherence to ethics and policies.
• Problem solving in variable conditions.
• Willingness to use scheduling programs.

Responsibilities

• Assures compliance by reviewing project plans and shop drawings.
• Reviews plans for value and constructability, communicates inconsistencies to the architect.
• Recommends cost-saving methods benefiting owner.
• Attends meetings and distributes minutes.
• Publishes weekly progress reports and tracks required information.
• Updates project schedules as needed.
• Assists in bidding and scope development for trade contractors.
• Coordinates with superintendent to set milestones and review shop drawings.
• Maintains logs of shop drawings, clarifications, change requests, and proposals.
• Ensures safety procedures are followed and inspections conducted.
