Job summary

American Traveler, LLC. is hiring a night-shift Behavioral Health RN for an inpatient psychiatric unit in Des Moines, IA. Must hold an IA RN license (or compact) and have recent psych/behavioral health experience.

The role includes float coverage across age groups, 1:4-6 patient ratios, night shift 11p-7a, and weekend commitments with no on-call requirements. Travel duties include working across Des Moines campuses and adhering to scrubs policy.

Qualifications

• Active IA RN license or compact/multistate license required.
• Current BLS certification (AHA or ARC) required.
• MOAB or CPI de-escalation certification preferred, can obtain during onboarding.
• Minimum 15 months of experience in Psych/Behavioral Health required.
• Recent or current inpatient psychiatric experience highly preferred.
• Experience with all age groups (adolescent, adult, geriatric) required.
• First-time travelers accepted with at least 12 months of Psych/BH experience.
• Valid driver's license required for consideration.
• Professional reference from a supervisor, charge nurse, manager, director, or C-suite within the past 24 months preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inpatient Adult Mental Health unit, with home unit being Adults but requiring float across adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
• Acute psychiatric patient population including major mental illness and chronic behaviors such as violence, aggression, mania, and self-harm.
• Patient ratios up to 1:4-6 depending on unit and shift.
• Night shift, 11p-7a, Monday-Friday, 40 hours/week.
• Every other weekend required.
• No on-call requirements.
• Float required across Des Moines campuses and age groups as needed.
• Uses restraint equipment competency.
• EPIC EMR used.
• Provide direct care to acute psychiatric patients in an inpatient behavioral health setting.
• Scrub color requirement: solid navy blue.
• Required to work 1-2 of 3 upcoming holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's) unless the unit is closed.
• Required to work 1-2 of 3 upcoming summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day) unless the unit is closed.
• Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility.
• Past employees of the health system, whether FTE or PRN, are restricted from working travel assignments at other facilities in the market within 12 months of separation.
