Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Behavioral Health RN for a night shift in Oklahoma. The ideal candidate has at least one year of psychiatric nursing experience, current BLS and CPI, and an active OK license.

This travel role includes a 3x12 schedule and working 18:45–7:15 with 1:6 patient ratios in a locked inpatient unit. Travelers must be comfortable floating to related units as needed and abiding by facility protocols, including seclusion and de-escalation procedures.

Qualifications

• Active OK or Compact RN license required at time of consideration.
• Current BLS and CPI certifications required.
• Minimum 1 year of behavioral health nursing experience required.
• Experience with 1:6 patient ratio preferred.
• Charge nurse experience preferred.
• Experience with crisis intervention and de-escalation.
• Knowledge of seclusion protocols and holds.
• Knowledge of voluntary/involuntary commitment

Responsibilities

• Behavioral Health unit within an inpatient hospital setting.
• Night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 18:45-7:15).
• Patient ratio of 1:6.
• Weekend shifts required.
• Floating to like units within scope as needed based on facility needs.
• Uses Epic charting system (preferred experience).
• Provide direct care to patients in a locked, inpatient behavioral health setting.
• Perform therapeutic interventions including crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
• Administer emergent chemical restraints and manage assaultive behavior as needed.
• Receive brief orientation when floating to other units.
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
• Must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be considered.
• Former facility staff must wait one year before returning as a traveler.
• No more than 3 days of RTO will be auto-approved, and no RTO is permitted during the first week of orientation

Job description

American Traveler is hiring a Behavioral Health RN for a night shift position requiring BLS and CPI certifications with at least one year of psychiatric nursing experience.

Requirements

• Active OK or Compact RN license required at time of consideration
• Current BLS and CPI certifications required
• CBHS and MAB certifications preferred
• Minimum 1 year of behavioral health nursing experience required
• Experience with 1:6 patient ratio preferred
• Prior charge nurse experience preferred
• Teaching hospital, community hospital, LTAC, and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
• Skilled in administration of psychiatric medications including antianxiety, antidepressant, antipsychotic, mood stabilizer, and sedative/analgesic agents
• Experience starting and maintaining IVs
• Competent in care of patients with anxiety, bipolar, depressive, eating, personality, psychotic, and substance use disorders
• Skilled in crisis intervention, de-escalation, and behavior management techniques
• Experience with seclusion protocols and physical hold procedures
• Knowledge of voluntary/involuntary commitment and legal aspects of psychiatric care
