Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Behavioral Health RN for night shift in Wisconsin. Requires at least 2 years of psychiatric nursing experience and an active WI or compact RN license.

The role includes night shifts, travel rate with housing allowance, and the need to manage psychiatric patients in a locked inpatient unit with crisis intervention.

Qualifications

• Active WI or compact RN license required.
• BLS certification required (AHA only).
• Minimum 2 years of Behavioral Health RN experience.
• Minimum 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years in the specialty.
• Previous charge nurse experience required.
• Epic EMR experience required, ideally within the past 12 months.
• Experience with psychiatric medication administration and crisis intervention techniques.
• Experience caring for patients with psychiatric disorders including bipolar, PTSD, and substance use.
• Must pass a telemetry exam with strict scoring criteria prior to start.
• CPI certification preferred.
• Teaching hospital, community hospital, and Trauma Level I experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Behavioral Health unit within a Magnet-designated teaching hospital.
• Night shift schedule with 8 and 12-hour shifts, including 1500-2330, 1900-0730, and 2300-0730.
• Weekend rotation and holiday coverage as needed.
• Patient ratio of 1:4.
• Primary responsibilities do not include medication distribution.
• Floating required as needed.
• Uses Epic charting system.
• Provide direct patient care in a locked inpatient psychiatric unit, including de-escalation and crisis intervention.
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for the travel rate; local candidates not accepted.
• Responsibilities include managing patients with conditions such as schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, self-injurious behavior, and suicidal behavior.
• Familiarity with seclusion protocols, emergent chemical restraints, and physical hold procedures preferred.
• First-time travelers are not being considered for this role.
