American Traveler, LLC. is hiring a Registered Nurse Behavioral Health for a Dual Psych unit in Montgomery, AL. The role requires at least 1 year of RN experience and CPI/MAB/Secure certification prior to start.

You will work 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM, with weekends every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month, on a 36-hour week schedule. Cerner EMR is used for documentation and Omnicell for medication dispensing. Generous housing allowance and travel perks are included.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in good standing.
• BLS certification required.
• CPI/MAB/Secure certification prior to start.
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience; 2 years for first-time travelers may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Care for adult patients 19-55 with co‑occurring addiction and mental health diagnoses.
• Work in an 18-bed dual diagnosis unit in a locked psychiatric facility.
• Manage varying numbers of restrained patients and ensure safety.
• EMR: Cerner; medication dispensing via Omnicell.
• Overtime shifts may be available; weekend rotation required.

Responsibilities

• Work in an 18-bed enclosed and locked psychiatric facility on the Dual Diagnosis Unit
• Care for adult patients ages 19-55 with co-occurring addiction and mental health diagnoses
• Manage varying numbers of restrained patients
• Patient ratios are 1:8 on days and 1:10 on nights
• Unit supported by MHTs, unit clerk (days), charge nurse, phlebotomy, and psych NP (days)
• EMR: Cerner; medication dispensing via Omnicell
• Floating required to like units within psych, including Adolescent and Adult Psych
• 12-hour day shifts, 7:00AM-7:00PM, 36 hours per week on a 4-week schedule cycle
• Weekend rotation required: every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month
• Block scheduling not accommodated
• Travelers may pick up overtime shifts
• Provide behavioral health nursing care within a dual diagnosis psychiatric unit
• New hires or those with less than 1 year of experience complete 24 hours of classroom orientation and 36 hours on-unit orientation
• Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy
• Facility maintains blackout dates during which time off will not be approved
• Up to 7 days of time off can be pre-approved excluding blackout dates; requests over 7 days require email approval
• RN scrubs may be any color; MHT scrubs must be black
• Parking available on-site
• Must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility to be eligible
• Former permanent staff must wait 6 months before being eligible to return as a traveler
