Job summary

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an LPN for a night shift skilled nursing facility assignment requiring 1+ year of large LTC experience and prior travel assignment experience.

Requirements

• License required if applicable
• Minimum 1 year of experience required

• Mandatory Reporter Training - Adult required
• Iowa's Dementia training (8 hours annually) required
• Experience in large LTC facilities required
• Must have successfully completed prior traveling assignments; first-time travelers will not be considered
• IV certification required to administer IVs

Responsibilities

• Skilled nursing facility connected to a hospital with 79 beds across four areas, including a locked memory care unit and North, South, and East halls on the second floor
• Mixture of large and small private rooms as well as semi-private rooms
• Patient population is primarily elderly, including some residents with cognitive disabilities who have aged out of local group homes
• Nurse-to-resident ratios vary by area assigned: 31, 30, or 18 patients per nurse, with 1 nurse in memory care at all times and 2 nurses each covering a hall and a half on the second floor during day/evening, dropping to 1 nurse and 1 med aide overnight
• CNA ratios vary by hall (18, 17, 22, or 22), with 1 CNA in memory care at all times and 2 CNAs plus a bath aide per hall on the second floor during day/evening hours
• Uses Point Click Care EMR and MEDITECH charting system
• IV and PICC line management required; LPNs must be IV certified to administer IVs
• No tele monitors on unit
• Shifts are 8 or 12 hours, starting at 6am, including 10p-6a and 6p-6a options, totaling 40 hours per week
• Required to work every other weekend and holidays based on facility need
• Floating required across halls and units within the facility, though not to the hospital
• LPN and RN duties are largely the same, except LPNs cannot administer IVs unless IV certified
• Interdisciplinary team includes a social worker, with PT/OT/Speech services provided through the hospital's therapy department
• DON and four unit managers rotate on-call coverage overnight to ensure availability
• Physician availability is on-call after hours
• No on-site pharmacy or medication dispensing system
• No respiratory therapist on-site 24/7
• Staff may be asked to assist with resident transportation to lab, radiology, and other hospital areas
• Unit-specific orientation includes 2 days in each area
• Dress code allows any scrub color, but sweatshirts and t-shirts are not permitted
• Facility is part of a Catholic organization with an on-site chapel and daily mass; staff may assist residents with attendance
• 50-mile radius rule applies
