Bowery Residents' Committee (BRC) in New York City seeks a Community Technician for a full-time 37.5-hour-a-week role. This frontline position supports individuals experiencing homelessness, with mandatory overtime and 24/7 program coverage.

No prior shelter experience required; strong judgment and empathy are essential to stay calm during crises. You will perform rounds, engage residents with trauma-informed methods, document incidents, and assist with safety and daily operations.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Strong communication skills and basic computer proficiency.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain professional boundaries.
• Willingness to obtain required certifications.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds.
• Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques.
• Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally.
• Screen residents and visitors while maintaining dignity and security.
• Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan – training provided).
• Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes).
• Support fire safety procedures, inspections, and compliance.
• Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep.
