Job summary

Bowery Residents' Committee, Inc. seeks a Community Technician to provide a consistent, trusted presence for individuals experiencing homelessness. You will respond to crises, support residents in transition, and help maintain a safe environment on site.

No prior shelter experience is required; strong judgment, empathy, and composure under pressure are essential. This full-time role includes a 24/7 program with mandatory overtime and hands-on training.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Strong communication skills and basic computer proficiency.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain professional boundaries.
• Willingness to obtain required certifications.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds.
• Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques.
• Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally.
• Screen residents and visitors while maintaining dignity and security.
• Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan – training provided).
• Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes).
• Support fire safety procedures, inspections, and compliance.
• Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep.
