Job summary

BRC in New York is seeking a Community Technician for full-time shifts to support individuals experiencing homelessness. You will be a trusted presence, handling crises with empathy and professional boundaries, while assisting with daily safety and documentation.

No prior shelter experience is required—training is provided. The role includes monitoring, de-escalation, incident reporting, and safety duties, with comprehensive benefits and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED is required
• Strong communication skills and basic computer proficiency
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain professional boundaries
• Willingness to obtain required certifications

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds
• Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques
• Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally
• Screen residents and visitors while maintaining dignity and security
• Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan – training provided)
• Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes)
• Support fire safety procedures, inspections, and compliance
• Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep
• Related duties as assigned
