Job summary

BRC is seeking a Community Technician in New York, NY to provide direct support to individuals experiencing homelessness. This full-time role (37.5 hours/week) operates within a 24/7 program with mandatory overtime, delivering calm, compassionate care during crises and transitions.

You will engage residents, perform safety checks, and document incidents while building skills in trauma-informed care and de-escalation. Training and certifications are provided.

Qualifications

• Strong communication and basic computer proficiency.
• Ability to stay calm under pressure and maintain professional boundaries.
• Willingness to obtain required certifications.
• Experience with homelessness, mental health, or substance use populations is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds.
• Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques.
• Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally.
• Screen residents and visitors while maintaining dignity and security.
• Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan – training provided).
• Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes).
• Support fire safety procedures, inspections, and compliance.
• Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep.
