Job summary

BRC in New York, NY is hiring a Community Technician to provide frontline support for individuals experiencing homelessness. The role is full-time and on-site, with responsibilities including safety monitoring, crisis de-escalation, incident documentation, and assisting with meals and transportation.

You will gain experience in trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and crisis intervention, plus access to BRC-sponsored certifications and clear pathways to advancement within a mission-driven team.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Strong communication skills and basic computer proficiency.
• Ability to stay calm under pressure and maintain professional boundaries.
• Willingness to obtain required certifications.
• Experience with homelessness, mental health, or substance use populations preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds.
• Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques.
• Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally.
• Screen residents and visitors while maintaining dignity and security.
• Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan – training provided).
• Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes).
• Support fire safety procedures, inspections, and compliance.
• Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep.
