Job summary

The Bowery Residents' Committee seeks a Community Technician to provide frontline support for individuals experiencing homelessness. You will monitor, assist with crises, screen residents, and support safety protocols while maintaining dignity and security.

No prior shelter experience required; training will cover CPR/First Aid and Narcan. Expect 37.5 hours, flexible shifts, and mandatory overtime as part of a mission-driven team.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Strong communication skills and basic computer proficiency.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Willingness to obtain required certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds.
  • Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques.
  • Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally.
  • Screen residents and visitors while maintaining dignity and security.
  • Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan – training provided)
  • Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes)
  • Support fire safety procedures, inspections, and compliance.
  • Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep.
  • Related duties as assigned
