Job summary

The Bowery Residents' Committee seeks a Community Technician to provide hands-on support for individuals experiencing homelessness. You’ll help maintain a safe, respectful environment, monitor rounds, and respond to crises with calm judgment and empathy.

This full-time position offers trauma-informed training, certification opportunities (CPR/First Aid, Narcan), and pathways toward case management and leadership within a mission-driven team.

Qualifications

  • Frontline role requiring empathy, judgment, and calm under pressure.
  • Willingness to obtain required certifications and participate in on-the-job training.
  • No prior shelter experience required; training provided.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds
  • Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques
  • Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally
  • Screen residents and visitors while maintaining dignity and security
  • Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan – training provided)
  • Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes)
  • Support fire safety procedures, inspections, and compliance
  • Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep

Skills

Strong communication skills
Basic computer proficiency
Ability to stay calm under pressure
Willingness to obtain required certs
Experience with homelessness, mental健康
Bilingual

Education

High School diploma or GED
