Job summary

BOWERY RESIDENTS' COMMITTEE is seeking a Community Technician in New York, NY. This full-time role offers 37.5 hours per week with a 24/7 program and mandatory overtime, providing frontline support to individuals experiencing homelessness.

You will maintain a safe residential environment, engage residents with trauma-informed approaches, and respond to crises with professionalism. No prior shelter experience is required, but you should bring strong judgment, empathy, and the ability to stay calm

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Strong communication skills and basic computer proficiency.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain professional boundaries.
• Willingness to obtain required certifications.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds.
• Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques.
• Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally.
• Screen residents and visitors while maintaining dignity and security.
• Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan – training provided).
• Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes).
• Support fire safety procedures, inspections, and compliance.
• Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep.
