Job summary

Bowery Residents' Committee, Inc. in Manhattan, NY seeks a Community Technician for a full-time 37.5-hour position in a 24/7 program. You will support individuals experiencing homelessness during crises and help maintain a safe, orderly environment.

Engagement with residents using trauma-informed approaches, documentation, and safety procedures is required. Overtime is mandatory; prior shelter experience is not needed, and training/certifications are provided.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Strong communication and basic computer skills.
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure and maintain boundaries.
  • Willingness to obtain required certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe residential environment through monitoring and rounds.
  • Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques.
  • Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally.
  • Screen residents and visitors with dignity and security.
  • Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan training provided).
  • Complete logbooks, incident reports, and progress notes.
  • Support fire safety inspections and compliance.
  • Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep.
