Job summary

Bowery Residents' Committee is seeking a Community Technician to provide frontline support for individuals experiencing homelessness. You will maintain a safe, respectful environment, engage residents with empathy, and respond to crises on every shift.

No prior shelter experience is required, but you must stay calm under pressure, communicate clearly, and be willing to obtain required certifications.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Strong communication skills and basic computer proficiency.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain professional boundaries.
• Willingness to obtain required certifications.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds.
• Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques.
• Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally.
• Screen residents and visitors while maintaining dignity and security.
• Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan – training provided)
• Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes)
• Support fire safety procedures, inspections, and compliance
• Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep
