Job summary

Bowery Residents' Committee in New York, NY seeks a Community Technician to provide a consistent, trusted presence for individuals experiencing homelessness, especially during moments of crisis, uncertainty, or transition. This frontline role requires empathy, sound judgment, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.

You’ll monitor and secure spaces, respond to crises, document incidents, and assist with meals, escorts, and safety inspections.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Strong communication skills and basic computer proficiency.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain professional boundaries.
• Willingness to obtain required certifications.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds
• Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques
• Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally
• Screen residents and visitors while maintaining dignity and security
• Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan – training provided)
• Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes)
• Support fire safety procedures, inspections, and compliance
• Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep
