Job summary

Bowery Residents' Committee in New York City seeks a Community Technician to provide a safe, supportive presence for individuals experiencing homelessness. You’ll monitor living spaces, engage residents with trauma-informed approaches, and respond to crises with calm and professionalism.

No prior shelter experience required; you’ll receive training, certifications (CPR/First Aid, Narcan) and opportunities for advancement, while helping with meals, safety and documentation.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Strong communication skills and basic computer proficiency.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain professional boundaries.
• Willingness to obtain required certifications.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds.
• Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques.
• Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally.
• Screen residents and visitors while maintaining dignity and security.
• Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan – training provided).
• Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes).
• Support fire safety procedures, inspections, and compliance.
• Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep.
