Job summary

Bowery Residents' Committee is seeking a Community Technician to provide frontline support in a 24/7 program. The role centers on maintaining a safe, supportive environment for individuals experiencing homelessness and responding to crises with calm, professional judgment.

This hands-on position emphasizes trauma-informed care, de-escalation, and collaboration with a caring team. Training and certifications will be provided; no prior shelter experience is required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Strong judgment, empathy, and ability to stay calm under pressure.
• No prior shelter experience required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds.
• Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques.
• Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally.
• Screen residents and visitors while maintaining dignity and security.
• Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan – training provided)
• Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes)
• Support fire safety procedures, inspections, and compliance
• Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep
• Related duties as assigned
