Job summary

BRC is seeking a Community Technician in New York, NY for a Full-Time role with a 37.5 hour work week and mandatory overtime. You will be a steady, trusted presence for individuals experiencing homelessness, providing crisis support and compassionate care across shifts.

No prior shelter experience is required; candidates should show empathy, sound judgment, and calmness under pressure. Training and certifications are provided by BRC.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Strong communication skills and basic computer proficiency.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain professional boundaries.
• Willingness to obtain required certifications.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, orderly residential environment through active monitoring and rounds.
• Engage residents using trauma-informed and de-escalation techniques.
• Respond to conflicts, safety concerns, and crises professionally.
• Screen residents and visitors while maintaining dignity and security.
• Provide emergency support (First Aid/CPR, Narcan – training provided).
• Complete documentation (logbooks, incident reports, progress notes).
• Support fire safety procedures, inspections, and compliance.
• Assist with meals, escorts, inventory, and facility upkeep.
