Job summary

First Student Dispatchers are the frontline to ensure safety and on-time performance across routes. The role involves dispatching buses, counseling drivers, and handling high-volume communications with customers and staff.

Ideal candidates bring 3–5 years of dispatch experience, a high school diploma, and solid computer and radio dispatch skills. This on-site position offers a Monday–Friday schedule with a 5:30am–9:30am and 1:30pm–5:30pm split shift, and $25–$27 per hour depending on experience.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years experience in dispatching or related role.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Basic knowledge of radio dispatch equipment.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work under time constraints and deadlines.
• Previous terminal operations, dispatch, or driver experience preferred.
• Computer literate and able to handle heavy phone/radio traffic.
• Subject to DOT drug testing and physical; DOT 40 compliance noted.

Responsibilities

• Oversees all routes and scheduling of buses.
• Counsels and coaches drivers and monitors.
• Handles heavy phone and radio traffic.
• Reports scheduling and driver complaints to Operations Supervisor/Contract Manager.
• Serves as primary communication liaison with major contracted customer.
• May handle charter reservations, billing, or driver payroll.
• Provides solutions to drop-off and pick-up problems.
• Back-up driver duties or miscellaneous clerical tasks as needed.
• Completes special projects and assists with day-to-day operations.
