Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking a Production Manager Trainee in Greencastle, IN. You will learn and certify in all farm department areas, including breeding, nursery, and finishing, under supervision to prepare for a managerial role.

You’ll gain expertise in pig production processes, animal flow, farm health, genetics, and husbandry, while performing hourly tasks and developing reports to identify improvements. A relocation package is available for the right candidate.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science or related agricultural field, or enrollment with anticipated graduation.
• Ability to work an average 48-hour week; weekend/evening/holiday work as needed.
• Willingness to relocate for training and first management assignment.
• Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft software.
• Strong teamwork and respectful, approachable demeanor.
• Supportive of the mission of raising swine for human consumption of high-quality pork products.

Responsibilities

• Learn and certify in all farm department areas including breeding/farrowing and nursery/finishing.
• Understand pig production processes, animal flow, farm health, genetics, and husbandry.
• Perform and master hourly jobs under supervision and become certified in each.
• Develop and prepare reports on experiences and address opportunities for improvement.
• Comply with environmental laws and IPS, biosecurity, animal welfare, and EMS policies.
• Progress in the Manager Training development program and report issues to HR.
• Act as acting HOD as needed by management and be on call for emergencies.
