Job summary

Smithfield Foods, Inc. is seeking a Production Manager Trainee to learn, demonstrate capability, and become certified in all farm department areas, including breeding, nursery, and finishing operations.

You will gain hands-on experience with pig production processes, animal flow, and farm health while performing hourly tasks under supervision. Progression includes leadership certification, reporting experiences, and readiness for a first managerial assignment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Animal Science or related Agricultural field, or currently enrolled student with anticipated graduation
• Must be able to work an average 48-hour week with variable hours
• Weekend, evening, and holiday work required as needed
• Must shower in and out of farm facilities daily
• Ability to lead others and work well in a team
• Willingness to relocate to complete training and assume first managerial assignment
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and computer literacy

Responsibilities

• Learns, demonstrates capability and becomes certified in all farm department areas including Breeding/Farrowing and Nursery/Finishing
• Gains understanding of pig production processes, animal flow, farm health, and genetics
• Performs hourly jobs under supervision and achieves certification in each
• Develops and prepares reports on experiences and opportunities for improvement
• Complies with environmental laws, IPS, biosecurity, animal welfare, and EMS policies
• Acts as acting Head of Department as needed by management
• Reports environmental, animal care, and biosecurity issues to supervisor promptly
• Progresses through Manager Training and leadership development programs
