Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is seeking a Traffic Engineer to design traffic signals, roadway lighting and ITS systems, with field work and client interaction in the Southeast U.S. You will lead design tasks, develop cost estimates, and coordinate with multiple disciplines to ensure quality outcomes.

The role requires 5–10 years in the discipline, a PE license (civil candidates) or EIT with plan to obtain NC/SC PE within 6 months, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from ABET-accredited program in electrical, mechanical, systems or civil engineering.
• 5–10 years of experience in the relevant discipline.
• Active PE license required for civil candidates; EIT acceptable if able to obtain NC/SC PE within 6 months.
• Current US state driver’s license and ability to drive.

Responsibilities

• Traffic signal and roadway lighting design, including CAD and field work.
• ITS, signal interconnection, and emerging traffic technology design.
• Signal timing at a corridor level with field-based fine tuning.
• Support of traffic safety projects and other Smart Mobility projects.
• Signal cabinet wiring and signal controller programming.
• Analyze survey data to plan projects and tasks.
• Prepare and compile contract plans, specs and estimates.
• Attend client meetings and take minutes.
• Coordinate with other disciplines and ensure design fit.
• Quality review of project design per PM Plan.
