Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson, Inc. is seeking a seasoned Traffic Engineer in the southeastern U.S. to design signals, lighting, and ITS interfaces.

You will interpret broad requirements, coordinate with multiple disciplines, and deliver project plans with accurate cost estimates. The role demands 5–10 years of experience, a relevant ABET-accredited degree, and an active PE license for civil candidates, or an EIT with a path to NC/SC PE within 6 months.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, systems, or civil engineering from ABET-accredited program
• 5–10 years’ experience in a specialized discipline
• Active PE license (civil candidates) or EIT with NC/SC PE plan within 6 months
• Ability to drive and valid US driver’s license
• Must pass JMT Motor Vehicle screening

Responsibilities

• Traffic signal and roadway lighting design, including CAD and field work
• ITS, signal interconnection, and emerging traffic technology design
• Signal timing at a corridor level with field-based fine tuning
• Support of traffic safety projects and other Smart Mobility programs
• Signal cabinet wiring and signal controller programming
• Analyze survey data, maps, drawings, and aerials to plan projects
• Perform design computations and prepare construction estimates
• Prepare and compile contract plans, specs, and estimates
• Attend client meetings and assist taking minutes
• Coordinate with other disciplines and ensure design fit
• Quality review of designs per PM Plan
• Provide technical oversight of Traffic Design Engineers
